Laptop with a broken hinge – epoxy hinge repair, service in Novi Sad

Has the hinge on your laptop cracked, is the screen wobbling or does the lid no longer stay firmly in place? It is one of the most common laptop faults, and in most cases you do not have to replace the whole top or bottom half of the case. At our service in Novi Sad we glue and reinforce hinges with professional two-component epoxy adhesives.

Why do laptop hinges fail?

The most common causes are:

  • cracked plastic mounts (posts) that the hinges are screwed into,
  • a bent hinge bracket or one pulled out of the plastic,
  • years of opening and closing, especially with one hand,
  • dropping the laptop or hitting the screen,
  • pressure from a bag, or closing the lid on a pen, headphones or a cable.

If the fault is not repaired in time, the hinge can break completely, damage the display flat cable or crack the display bezel.

What a hinge fault looks like – the symptoms

Laptop with a broken hinge and a detached screen lid – glue repair in Novi Sad

  • the screen does not stay in the desired position or falls backwards,
  • you hear cracking or creaking when opening the lid,
  • there is a gap between the lid and the case,
  • the bottom of the laptop lifts or the case shifts when you open it,
  • the hinge is loose or you can see it has come out of the plastic.

Gluing hinges with two-component epoxy

Unlike ordinary "instant" glues, two-component epoxy forms a hard, strong bond after curing that withstands the load a hinge takes every day. That makes it suitable for repairing cracked plastic around the hinge and returning the bracket to its correct position.

Our repair process:

  1. Diagnostics – we check which hinges are damaged, the condition of the plastic, the display flat cable and whether a glue repair is worthwhile at all.
  2. Disassembly – we carefully remove the screen bezel and parts of the case, protecting the display and cables.
  3. Cleaning and surface preparation – we remove old glue, dust and grease so the bond is as strong as possible.
  4. Epoxy bonding – we join the broken parts and fix the hinge in the correct position, without strain.
  5. Curing – we allow enough time for the adhesive to set fully before reassembly.
  6. Reassembly and testing – we check smooth opening, that the screen holds in every position and that the display works properly.

When is gluing the hinges a good solution, and when not?

Gluing is an excellent solution when the hinges themselves are intact and the plastic around them is damaged. If the metal hinge itself is bent or broken, or the display is damaged, the corresponding part has to be replaced. After the inspection we will tell you openly what the best and most cost-effective option is, before we start any work.

Why repair instead of replace?

  • it is much cheaper than replacing the case or the whole laptop,
  • for older models spare parts are often unavailable or expensive,
  • you keep your laptop and all the data on it, with no loss,
  • the repair is usually finished quickly.

Tips to protect your hinges

  • open the laptop with both hands, near the middle or the corners of the lid,
  • do not lift the laptop by the screen alone,
  • make sure nothing is left between the screen and the keyboard when closing it,
  • as soon as you notice stiffness or creaking, bring it in for inspection – an earlier repair is cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

Is a glued hinge permanent?
A properly made epoxy bond is very strong, but durability depends on the extent of the damage and how the laptop is used. You get the details after the inspection.

Will the glue be visible on the laptop?
We work neatly with minimal traces, and the adhesive is applied inside the case, so there are usually no visible marks on the outside.

How long does the repair take?
Because the glue needs to cure, the repair takes longer than a standard service, usually one to two days. We agree the exact deadline at drop-off.

Will I lose my data?
No. The hinge repair is done on the case and does not touch your data.
